About Lou Reed
Although on the fringe and avant-garde end of rock and roll, Lou Reed is one of the most influential musicians for his role in the Velvet underground and his solo career as a singer-songwriter. The band did not get much attention in its time, but tuned out to be the source of much of alternative rock to follow. Lou Reed, writing most of the band's material, would touch on sexual topics of the weirdest kinds, including S&M and transsexuals undergoing lobotomies in songs such as Heroin and Lady Godiva's Operation.
